Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) faces a weekend app glitch, revealing account details of strangers. The issue was resolved swiftly, ensuring no client funds were at risk.
Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) had to deal with a glitch in its banking app over the weekend. Some customers saw account details of strangers in the app on Saturday.
On Monday evening, ZKB confirmed a report by the online portal “20 Minuten” at the request of the news agency AWP. A spokeswoman said there had been “a brief technical disruption on Saturday evening during a planned and previously announced system interruption due to a release in ZKB Mobile Banking.”
According to “20 Minuten,” certain app users were shown account data from other bank customers, including account balances and real names.
However, the error occurred “exclusively in rare constellations during a short time window,” according to the spokesperson. The glitch lasted two hours and required “various factors to be fulfilled at the same time.”
The bank stated that only the mobile banking app was affected by the technical glitch, not e-banking. The spokeswoman emphasized that at no time was client money at risk.
Once the error was detected, the bank reset the app to maintenance mode. It has been working normally again since Sunday morning.
“The bank has analyzed the incident in detail and taken measures to rule out an incident of this kind in the future,” said the spokeswoman. ZKB regrets the incident and apologizes for it.
