On Thursday, a 24-year-old man will have to answer to the Lucerne Criminal Court for multiple speeding offenses. The Lucerne police tracked down his speeding on the basis of a clip leaked to them by the video portal Tiktok.

The clip showed the accused driving at a speed of 198 km/h on the A2 highway and presumably filming himself, according to the indictment issued by the Sursee public prosecutor’s office on Thursday.

Following the arrest of the then 22-year-old German national, five further videos showing violations of the Road Traffic Act were found on his cell phone. In these videos, the motorist was driving at speeds of between 123 and 202 km/h in various Lucerne municipalities such as Nottwil, Eich and Ruswil.

The public prosecutor’s office is requesting a prison sentence of 3.5 years and a fine of CHF 1,300. By deliberately violating elementary traffic rules on several occasions, the accused ran a high risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death, according to the statement.

He is also accused of driving a car that is unsafe and does not comply with the regulations. Various defects were found on his vehicle.

These included the installation of third-party rims without a declaration of suitability, a non-manufacturer silencer and unauthorised aerodynamic add-on parts. An increase in performance was also achieved by reprogramming the engine control electronics.
