The director of the Swiss health insurance association Santésuisse, Verena Nold, has said that health insurance premiums must rise by 8-9% in 2024 in order to cover the increased health costs. However, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) is pushing for a smaller increase in premiums, which would lead to a larger increase in subsequent years. Nold also said that health insurance funds are already having to draw on their reserves this year, as health costs have risen by 6-7%. In order to reduce health costs in the long term, Nold suggested introducing generic drugs at prices closer to those abroad, and making the house doctor model or other cost-saving models the standard. The final amount of health insurance premiums for 2024 will be announced by the BAG in September each year.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
