Space Eye, a new observatory, opened on 23rd September in Niedermuhlern BE. It is housed in a building designed by star architect Mario Botta and aims to provide knowledge about space and the environment to the general public. The observatory's tower, also designed by Botta, houses the largest telescope in Switzerland. Underground, interactive exhibition islands and a planetarium will be available for knowledge sharing. The observatory was opened to around 400 network partners and supporters this weekend. At a media conference, Swiss astrophysicist and former astronaut Claude Nicollier said that the observatory could help to convey the mysteries of the sky and the need to protect this planet to the population. Botta said he had tried to create a small "bijou", a jewel, in the landscape. Space Eye is a new observatory located in Niedermuhlern BE, designed by star architect Mario Botta.
