The Alpine Solar Project at Melchsee-Frutt in the canton of Obwalden has been cancelled due to the landowner's concerns. The landowner, Alpgenossenschaft Kerns, stated that the required perimeter was larger than expected and that significant interventions into the ground were necessary. They also expressed concern about the long-term effects on the farmers and their livestock. The project was initiated by the Obwalden Electricity Works (EWO) and the Basel energy provider IWB. The photovoltaic plant was to be located north of Tannensee on an area of up to 45 hectares and would have produced around 45 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The IWB expressed regret at the decision. The project has now been cancelled due to the landowner's concerns.
