The Swiss Federal Council has approved the mandate of the Swiss delegation to the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December. President Alain Berset and Environment Minister Albert Rösti will attend the summit. The goal of the Paris Agreement is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The COP28 will be the first time countries will take stock of their progress in implementing the agreement. The Swiss delegation will push for a global commitment to expanding renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as clarifying the contributions to and location of the Climate Loss and Damage Fund. The Swiss delegation is also advocating for a global commitment to phase out coal, oil and gas by 2050. The Swiss delegation is led by Felix Wertli, head of the International Department of the Federal Office for the Environment, and includes three representatives from the business and environmental sectors.
