Waadtland Budget with Deficit of 249 Million Swiss Francs

The Waadtland Cantonal Government expects a deficit of 249 million Swiss francs in 2024. The budget includes a tax cut for individuals and amounts for cost of living adjustments for public employees. In light of the economic slowdown and high inflation, the State Council is striving for stability, according to a media statement released on Monday. The goal of the 2024 budget is also to strengthen the purchasing power of the population. Total expenditure amounts to 11.627 billion Swiss francs, an increase of 4.9 percent compared to the 2023 budget. For cost of living adjustments and various other wage measures, the canton will provide a total of 230 million Swiss francs. Without these measures, expenditure growth would be 2.9 percent. The investment budget envisages gross expenditure of 599 million Swiss francs, new loans and new guarantees, amounting to a total of 1.1 billion Swiss francs. According to the canton, this is a new record. The debt is expected to rise to 600 million by 2024.
