German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider spoke on Monday about Germany's announced border controls at the Swiss border. Federal Councillor Baume-Schneider reminded her colleague of the close interconnection of the border regions. Minister Faeser assured that the border traffic should be affected as little as possible. The two ministers reaffirmed their willingness to continue the constructive and successful cooperation against secondary migration and smuggling activities. The Federal Office for Customs and Border Protection (BAZG) has already decided in September to send personnel from the German-speaking part of Switzerland to the border with Italy to support the situation. The Swiss government is closely monitoring the migration situation and reserves the right to take further measures.
