In the canton of Vaud, the election for the Council of States is a close race between Pierre-Yves Maillard (SP) and Pascal Broulis (FDP). After counting 24 percent of the votes, Maillard is ahead of Broulis by 200 votes. Maillard has 50.6 percent of the votes, Broulis has 50.2 percent, and Michael Buffat (SVP) has 31.5 percent. Raphaël Mahaim (Green) has 19.9 percent and Céline Weber (GLP) has 13.3 percent. A total of 13 women and men are running for the Council of States. The larger cities have not yet been counted. The current voter turnout is 44 percent.
