“Challenges in Swiss Politics are Huge”

Despite the substantial gains made by the Swiss People's Party (SVP) in the recent elections, SVP Fraction President Thomas Aeschi is not in a celebratory mood. He told a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency that the challenges facing Swiss politics are immense, particularly in the areas of immigration and asylum. He also noted that the security situation has deteriorated dramatically. The SVP is now attempting to find majorities with the centre-right and Free Democratic parties. A new policy is needed, as the population has clearly voted for a change of direction on election day. The Swiss people have given the SVP a clear mandate.
