In the canton of Ticino, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) is expected to gain one seat in the National Council, according to a projection by gfs.bern on behalf of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG). The left-wing coalition of Social Democrats and Greens is expected to retain their two seats in the National Council, while the Lega and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) are expected to keep their one and two seats respectively. The centrist Mitte-Partei, which previously held two seats in the National Council, is expected to lose one seat.
After counting 88 of the 106 Ticino municipalities, the Mitte-Partei, FDP and the left-wing coalition were all between 19.6 and 20.6 percent of the vote. The final result of which party or bloc will lose a seat will be determined after the votes from the cities of Bellinzona and Lugano are counted. In total, the canton of Ticino has eight seats in the National Council.
