No New Majorities in the National Council – Strengthened Rights of the Council

The Swiss People's Party (SVP) has made a strong comeback in the 2021 National Council elections, regaining most of the seats it lost in the last election in 2019. According to the latest GFS Bern poll, the SVP now holds 61 seats in the National Council, with a voter share of 29%. The Green Party has lost six seats, while the Green Liberal Party (GLP) has lost five. The Centre Party has gained two seats, overtaking the Free Democratic Party (FDP) with 30 seats to the FDP's 29. The Social Democratic Party (SP) has gained one seat, with a voter share of 17.4%. The Evangelical People's Party (EVP) has lost one seat, while the Lega and EDU have kept their single seats. Other groups have gained three seats, two of which have gone to the MCG protest party in Geneva. In total, the right-wing parties have gained 11 seats, while the left-wing parties have lost seven.
