Roberto Martullo, the husband of SVP National Councillor Magdalena Martullo-Blocher and son-in-law of Christoph Blocher, has suffered yet another political defeat on election day. He failed to gain a seat in the National Council, receiving only 1409 votes on the SVP's U-55 list. This is the latest in a series of unsuccessful political attempts, having previously failed in two local school board elections and three attempts to gain a seat in the Zurich Cantonal Council. He was also president of the SVP Sektion Meilen for three years, but had to resign in 2013 due to internal disputes. He had supported Thomas Minder's Abzocker Initiative, contrary to Christoph Blocher and the SVP mother party.
