The new collective labor agreement (CLA) for service station stores came into force on Wednesday. It brings higher minimum wages and more weekends off in 2024. For the first time, Ticino is also subject to it, so that binding minimum wages also apply there.
The social partners - the Swiss Association of Service Station Shops, the Unia and Syna unions, and the Swiss Commercial Association - took up the renegotiation of the CLA in 2020.
With the new CLA, minimum wages will rise by 130 francs in 2024, or by 3.1 to 3.5 percent depending on seniority and qualifications, they said in a joint communiqué on Wednesday. A new wage category will be added, which takes into account the seniority of unskilled workers.
The lowest wages will be paid to unskilled workers in Ticino from New Year's Day, at 13 times 3630 francs per month. This means that the exemption for Ticino no longer applies and the minimum wages are binding throughout the country. In Valais, Jura, Graubünden Schaffhausen and Thurgau the minimum wage is 3730 francs and in the rest of Switzerland 3830 francs.
The Federal Council had previously rejected all objections from Ticino against the declaration of general applicability. The objections delayed the entry into force of the agreement by almost two years.
Employees in service station stores are now entitled to two days off in a row twice a month and ten weekends off a year. There are also improvements in maternity leave, further training, break regulations, video surveillance and other points.
