An Afghan national has been on trial in the court in Biel/Bienne BE since Monday. Out of jealousy, he allegedly stabbed his wife to death in an asylum shelter in Büren an der Aare.

The public prosecutor's office is accusing him of murder, possibly intentional homicide. The woman was 38 years old.

According to the indictment, she was stabbed to death in front of her five children in April 2022. Several residents of the asylum accommodation tried to help the mother after hearing screams. The husband was arrested at the scene.

According to the prosecution, the defendant killed his wife solely because she had told him several times that she wanted to separate from him. "The man acted coldly and callously by attacking and stabbing his wife by surprise," the indictment states.

The family had fled Afghanistan and arrived in Greece in 2019 before applying for asylum in Switzerland.
