At its delegates' meeting, the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) gave a mixed assessment of the wage negotiations. In addition to further compensation for wage arrears, the SGB is also calling for a 13th AHV pension to secure the cost of living in old age.
In intensive wage negotiations, the trade unions have managed to make progress in various sectors in terms of inflation compensation and real wage increases, the SGB announced in a press release on Friday. However, the wage gap remains high for many employees, which is why the SGB is calling for substantial real wage increases in the ongoing wage negotiations.
Retired people are also affected by the higher prices, rents and premiums in Switzerland, as pensions have been falling for years. With the popular initiative for a 13th AHV pension next March, Switzerland would have the opportunity to quickly compensate for the loss of purchasing power, wrote the SGB.
With regard to the Federal Council's negotiations with the EU, the delegates of the Confederation of Swiss Trade Unions underlined their key demands, the statement continued. Autonomous wage protection as well as public services in the electricity market and public transport should be guaranteed.
