Green parliamentary group calls for adjustments to the debt brake

According to Solothurn Green National Councillor Felix Wettstein, the instrument of the debt brake needs to be reconsidered. In future, the debt ratio should be used as a yardstick. In international comparison, Switzerland has an extremely low level of debt.
During the National Council's budget debate on Thursday, Wettstein expressed his dissatisfaction with the 2024 budget. The National Council committee had even worsened the Federal Council's proposal: "Arming the army, feeding agriculture, cutting social welfare: what kind of signal is that? What kind of country is this? I think we should be ashamed of ourselves."
According to Wettstein, it remains to be seen whether the Greens will agree to the budget at the end of the debate. "So far, it's not our budget."
