46-year-old dies in apartment fire in St-Légier-La-Chiésaz VD

A fire claimed one life in a four-storey house in St-Légier-La-Chiésaz VD on Sunday night. Other residents of the house suffered smoke inhalation.
A resident of the house reported the smell of burning in the apartment building to the emergency call center shortly before 2 a.m., according to the Vaud cantonal police on Sunday. The emergency services who responded found the source of the fire in an apartment on the second floor.
The fire department pulled the unconscious tenant out of the already devastated apartment. According to the statement, the 46-year-old Swiss woman died despite resuscitation attempts by first aiders and paramedics. Another resident was taken to hospital by ambulance.
All five apartments became uninhabitable after the fire. The tenants have been accommodated by relatives or have received help from the municipality, the police added. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
