The clean-up work following the failure of the meineimpfungen.ch platform is taking longer than originally planned. Users of the discontinued platform will not receive their data back for at least three months. Data records that cannot be recovered will be deleted, according to the former operator.
The solution for returning data to around 300,000 people is well advanced, the eHealth Aargau parent association announced on Monday. Funding for the project to save the vaccination data has been secured together with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and 23 cantons.
The data protection-compliant return or destruction of vaccination data is being set up on behalf of the Canton of Aargau. Productive operation can be expected in March at the earliest. The timetable had to be adjusted because clarification with the data protection supervisory authorities took longer than planned.
Three months for data return
The portal will be in operation for three months for the return of the data, the parent company stated. All data will be processed exclusively in Switzerland and in accordance with Swiss law.
The platform with the electronic vaccination booklet was taken offline in March 2021 due to serious security flaws. The Federal Council admitted mistakes in supervision last year.
With the bankruptcy of the meineimpfungen.ch foundation, over five million data records of people throughout Switzerland are at risk and threatened with destruction, according to the website of the failed platform.
