SP co-leader Samuel Bendahan made no mention of the Green Party's candidacy in his speech ahead of the general elections to the Federal Council. Instead, he campaigned for the SP's "excellent" two-person ticket to succeed Alain Berset.

According to Bendahan, both candidates - Graubünden National Councillor Jon Pult and Basel Government President Beat Jans - have what it takes to take Switzerland forward in the Federal Council. Both have the stature and experience for this important office.

Bendahan did not comment on the Greens' attack on an FDP seat. He merely said that the SP had always respected the institutions.

In the run-up to the session of the United Federal Assembly, the SP had announced that only a minority of its parliamentary group would support the Green Party's candidacy. A majority considered Gerhard Andrey's candidacy to have no chance.
