SVP wants to fight “every institutional link to the EU”

The SVP has rejected the draft for a new negotiating mandate with the EU. In a statement on Friday, it described it as "old wine in new bottles" and a "poisoned Christmas present". The party wants to "fight any form of institutional ties with the EU by all means".
The Federal Council wants to institutionally link Switzerland to the EU, wrote the SVP. This means that the "center-left majority in the Federal Council" is prepared to automatically adopt EU law and accept the European Court of Justice (ECJ) as the final instance for dispute resolution.
The SVP firmly rejects this and will fight "by all means" to preserve a sovereign Switzerland. Among other things, the party wants independent control of immigration.
