The situation on the storm front in Valais has calmed down further. The canton therefore decided on Monday to lift the "special situation" declared just under a week ago. The situation on Lake Biel has also normalized, but the water level remains high.
"The return to dry weather now allows the state of emergency to be lifted," the canton of Valais announced on Monday. The water flow in the rivers has returned to normal, but the geological situation will take longer to stabilize. The canton warned that landslides or rockfalls could still occur locally over the next few days.
Last week's storms led to landslides, mudslides and rockfalls in Valais, resulting in the closure of several sections of road throughout the canton to traffic. According to the canton, it will take several weeks to repair some of the roads.
Shore paths on Lake Biel open again
The closure of the lakeside paths on Lake Biel will be lifted again from Tuesday. This was decided by the city of Biel after the high water level of Lake Biel had dropped for several days.
On Monday, it was below 430 meters above sea level again, according to the city of Biel. The protective measures were therefore lifted. However, the city still expected the water level to remain high. Rain is expected again from Wednesday and the temperatures will remain comparatively high.
