Fire extinguished at the Novazzano asylum center in Ticino

There was a fire at the Novazzano asylum center in Ticino on Thursday in the early afternoon. As a precaution, six people were taken to hospital with mild smoke inhalation, according to the Ticino cantonal police.
According to initial findings, a mattress was on fire in a room on the first floor. The fire was confined to this room and was extinguished by the fire department.
According to the cantonal police, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) moved the residents to temporary accommodation. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the fire and who may be responsible.
