The fire on a passenger train in Vezia TI early Saturday afternoon had a mild outcome. No one was injured.
The fire broke out in the driver's cab of the train shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Ticino cantonal police. It was extinguished immediately by the automatic extinguishing system. The train was subsequently blocked at the emergency stop in Vezia to allow the rescue work to continue.
The affected railroad section did not have to be closed. However, there were delays in rail traffic due to the reduced travel speed ordered. The passengers on the affected train were transported to Lugano station.
