VSE President Michael Wider spoke to the industry for the last time as President of the Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE) at the Electricity Congress in Bern on Wednesday. His successor has not yet been appointed.
Wider will officially step down at the Annual General Meeting on May 23, 2024. Association representatives told the news agency AWP that who will be nominated for the VSE top position will be communicated at the latest when the agenda for the AGM is announced. This is expected to take place in April.
Widers' resignation was communicated within the association last September. A search committee was tasked with making proposals to the Executive Board for a successor.
Some candidates have already publicly expressed an interest in the position: for example Swisspower CEO Ronny Kaufmann, EWZ Director Benedikt Loepfe and CKW CEO Martin Schwab. The latter two have been on the 13-member VSE Board since the 2022 Annual General Meeting.
Wider is currently still a member of the Executive Board at Alpiq, but will retire at the end of February 2024. He has worked for Alpiq and EOS respectively for more than 20 years. He has also been President of VSE since 2017, which is linked to his work at Alpiq.
The Swiss Electricity Congress is an annual two-day meeting of the industry with representatives from companies, politics and science. It is organized by the VSE and Electrosuisse (Association for Electrical, Energy and Information Technology).
