A wolf was found dead near Simplon Dorf in Upper Valais on January 13. The Valais wildlife authority did not provide any information on the circumstances of the animal's death.
The wolf carcass was found on the side of a road, the Valais Department of Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife (DJFW) announced on Friday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. It confirmed a report by the newspaper "Walliser Bote" from the previous day.
However, the office did not comment on why the public prosecutor's office had not opened an investigation, even though the wolf had been found dead almost three weeks ago. It also did not want to provide any information about the whereabouts of the carcass. "Analyses are currently being carried out, which is why we cannot provide any further information at present," it said.
Another wolf was found dead in Mörel in Upper Valais on January 21. Its remains were taken to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bern to determine the exact circumstances of the animal's death.
According to initial findings, the animal had several injuries, but no gunshot wound, the Valais cantonal police said in a press release at the time, explaining that an investigation had been launched.
