Lisa Mazzone remains the only candidate for the presidency of the Greens

Lisa Mazzone, former member of the Council of States in Geneva, is the only candidate to succeed Green Party President Balthasar Glättli (ZH). Two women and one man are also running for the vice presidency.
The Greens are delighted that very committed, fresh but also proven candidates are applying for the presidency, according to a press release issued on Monday after the application deadline.
National Councillor Marionna Schlatter (ZH), Grand Councillor Samantha Bourgoin (TI) and National Councillor Michael Töngi (LU) are the new candidates for the Vice-Presidency. National Councillor Nicolas Walder (GE), National Councillor Sibel Arslan (BS) and the Co-President of the Young Greens Margot Chauderna (FR) are standing for a further two-year term of office.
In the coming weeks, the candidacies received will be examined, the statement continued. The candidates will then appear at various events throughout Switzerland in order to maintain an exchange with members and other interested parties, the Greens added. A meeting with the Women's Network on March 9 and an appearance in Lucerne on March 12 have already been scheduled.
Many cancellations in advance
Just over two weeks ago, National Councillors Irène Kälin (AG) and Sibel Arslan (BS) also withdrew from the original list of favorites for the presidency of the Greens. Geneva National Councillor Nicolas Walder also announced that he would not be standing. With the candidacy of 36-year-old Mazzone, the two goals of representing progressive Green politics and French-speaking Switzerland have been fully achieved, said Walder.
Several other politicians had already withdrawn from the race to succeed the retiring Zurich National Councillor Balthasar Glättli before Mazzone's candidacy: Among them were parliamentary group leader Aline Trede, Ticino National Councillor Greta Gysin, Fribourg National Councillor Gerhard Andrey and Glarus Councillor of States Mathias Zopfi.
The new Executive Committee is to be elected at the Delegates' Meeting on April 6. A maximum of seven people can be appointed to the Executive Committee.
