Swiss Probably Not Affected by Lufthansa Warning Strike

Lufthansa Faces Major Disruption as Verdi Union Calls for Strike, Exempting Swiss Flights.

The German trade union Verdi plans to paralyze most of Lufthansa’s air traffic from Wednesday to Thursday. However, Switzerland is not expected to be affected by industrial action.

More than a hundred thousand Lufthansa passengers are in for a nasty surprise over the next few days. From Wednesday at 4.00 a.m. until Thursday at 7.10 a.m., up to 90 percent of the “crane airline’s” flights could be canceled due to a strike.

The reason for this is a warning strike by the German trade union Verdi, with which they want to build up pressure ahead of the wage negotiations. Specifically, Verdi demands a wage increase of 12.5 percent, but at least 500 euros for 12 months for employees at Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, and Lufthansa Cargo in Germany.

Lufthansa subsidiaries are also said to be affected by the strike. However, the Swiss gave the all-clear when asked by the news agency AWP. According to information from Wednesday afternoon, the airline is not affected by the strike, and air traffic will operate normally, said a spokeswoman. However, possible changes to the situation cannot be ruled out.
