Swiss has to start looking for a new CFO. Chief Financial Officer Markus Binkert is leaving the company at the end of May.
The search for a successor has already been initiated, the airline announced on Monday. Binkert, who worked for the airline for 19 years, is moving to the SV Group, which operates in the catering and hotel management sector. He will become CEO there, replacing Patrick Camele, who has headed the company for many years.
With this step, Binkert is returning to his roots, so to speak: according to the information provided, he started his career as a restaurant manager for various hotel chains in Hong Kong, London and New York.
Before taking up the post of Chief Financial Officer at Swiss, he held various positions within the Lufthansa Group. In 2013, he was reportedly appointed to the Executive Board of Swiss as Chief Commercial Officer and in 2016 he also took over responsibility for pricing, revenue management and distribution for the Lufthansa Group. He then briefly moved to Munich, where he was responsible for the Group's marketing, among other things.
In March 2020, he then took over as CFO of Swiss - just as the airline was sliding into one of its biggest crises to date with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. During his term as CFO, he was also responsible for negotiating the coronavirus bridging loan guaranteed by the Swiss government. He made a significant contribution to ensuring that Swiss is now on a sound financial footing, debt-free and well-positioned, Swiss CEO Dieter Vranckx is quoted in the press release.
