Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the SNB, believes that the time is right for him to step down. The SNB has succeeded in restoring price stability and financial stability. He had already been thinking about the right moment to step down for some time, he emphasized at a media conference on Friday.

However, the decision to resign was not due to his state of health: He was in good health, said Jordan, who appeared visibly relaxed. In summer 2021, the Chairman of the SNB Governing Board had to undergo heart surgery.

Jordan also emphasized that there is no connection to the report of the parliamentary commission of inquiry (PUK) on the CS crisis, which is expected by the end of the year. In the CS crisis, the SNB was able to prevent a financial crisis in cooperation with the federal government and the financial market supervisory authority Finma, he recapitulated.

The SNB Chairman went on to say that he had no plans for the time after his resignation. He will now complete his mandate with full commitment. He also kept a low profile on the question of his successor: this decision is not within his remit.
