On Saturday, the Avalanche Institute warned of a high avalanche risk in some areas. This is the second-highest danger level, which is only predicted on a few days in winter.

According to the avalanche warning service of the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos, the Simplon region, southern Goms, the Bedretto valley and the upper Maggia valleys were at high risk of avalanches.

Western, northern and eastern slopes at altitudes above 2200 meters were affected.

According to the avalanche warning service, spontaneous and often very large avalanches are likely at this danger level. Avalanches can easily be triggered on many steep slopes. Inexperienced tourers are advised to stay on the open slopes and routes.

There is considerable risk of avalanche danger in large planes of snow. There is also a moderate risk of wet snow avalanches at all exposures below 2400 meters.

For the weekend, 60 to 90 centimetres of fresh snow are expected above 1200 meters above sea level, and even 80 to 120 centimetres above 1800 meters.
