Rail Strike in Germany With Repercussions for Switzerland

Tue, Mar 5th 2024

The German rail strike halts cross-border connections, impacting travel plans. SBB steps in with alternative arrangements to minimize domestic disruptions.

Due to the German rail strike on Thursday and Friday, cross-border connections in Switzerland will be canceled. SBB is replacing them with other trains so that domestic services are not affected as far as possible. The night trains from Wednesday to Thursday to or through Germany are also affected.

Customers with a reservation can rebook their journeys or return them for a refund, as SBB announced on Tuesday. The Railjet and night trains via Austria as well as the Eurocity to Graz will run according to schedule. Trains to Prague will be rerouted via Linz.

SBB recommends postponing travel to and from Germany. According to the information provided, Deutsche Bahn is granting a special concession: travelers can use their ticket earlier or later. SBB is constantly adapting its online timetable.
