"The planned treaty with the EU means the total subjugation of Switzerland": this is how the SVP parliamentary group warned against the new negotiations in Bern on Tuesday. It thus launched its campaign for "the preservation of freedom".

In addition to freedom, Switzerland would lose direct democracy, economic success and thus prosperity, the party announced. The population should not be deceived. During a campaign on the Bundesterrasse, the parliamentary group flew Swiss cross balloons with this message on postcards.

"The EU turbos in the Federal Council and administration as well as the other parties still want to institutionally link Switzerland to the EU," warned the SVP. Its president and member of the Council of States Marco Chiesa (TI) explained that this would have negative consequences in every respect. The party would intensively educate the population.

In a "Common Understanding", the Federal Council has already committed to an institutional link. Switzerland would automatically have to adopt EU law, submit to the EU Court of Justice, abolish direct democracy, make regular payments and could be punished by the EU.

In plain language, Switzerland is becoming "a colony of Brussels", said parliamentary group leader and National Councillor Thomas Aeschi (ZG). The free trade agreement with India recently signed by Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin was a better way forward.
