Following the crash of a transport plane at Grenchen SO airport, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has opened criminal proceedings against a person on suspicion of disrupting public transport. The pilot died in the crash in February.
The criminal proceedings are also being conducted on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, as the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland confirmed on Thursday in a report by the SRF Regional Journal Aargau/Solothurn. The various investigations are ongoing as part of these criminal proceedings. The accused person is presumed innocent.
The transport plane crashed near Grenchen Airport on the afternoon of February 18. While the pilot was fatally injured, one parachutist suffered minor injuries. A total of eleven parachutists had jumped from the plane.
Parachutist tore off tailplane
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) published a preliminary report on the plane crash this week. This preliminary report sheds light on the background to the accident: during the parachutists' descent, one of the parachutists still on the aircraft unintentionally opened his reserve parachute.
The parachutist subsequently collided with the tailplane. The tailplane was completely torn off the aircraft - and the aircraft crashed. The pilot was not wearing a rescue parachute.
