The Fribourg International Film Festival (Fiff) ended on Saturday with a record 48,000 admissions. The festival's Grand Prix went to the Chinese film "Day Tripper" by Chen Yanqi. In total, the festival awarded prizes to five of the twelve films in the international competition.
"Day Tripper" is a quirky and absurd chronicle of everyday life, announced the Festival International de Films de Fribourg (Fiff) as the organizer. The jury found that Chen Yanqi's first feature film bears the hallmark of an up-and-coming great director.
The world premiere of the Peruvian family dystopia "Cuadrilátero" by Daniel Rodríguez Risco won the Special Jury Prize and the Youth Jury Prize. The Critics' Award went to "Inshallah a Boy" by Amjad Al Rasheed from Jordan.
The Ecumenical Jury honored the Colombian film "La Suprema" by Felipe Holguín Caro. The Audience Award went to "The Monk and the Gun" by Pawo Choyning Dorji from Bhutan. In the short film category, the Iranian documentary "Mrs. Iran's Husband" by Marjan Khosravi received two prizes.
The film festival began on March 15. It featured 100 films. One thematic focus in the genre cinema section was hip-hop culture. There was also the world's first overview of North Macedonian films. Of the 100 films in the program, five were world premieres, a further five were international and European premieres and forty were Swiss premieres.
The festival does not end with the award ceremony on Saturday evening. From Monday, a selection of the films can be viewed online on Festival Scope. The selection will be freely accessible for three weeks. Thanks to this offer, the organizers expect to break the historic mark of 55,000 viewers.
