Swissmedic warns against the "Lemon Bottle" fat removal syringe. Due to the lack of approval, the preparation is not authorized for sale in Switzerland and may not be used.
As "Lemon Bottle" is injected for use, the syringe falls under the law on therapeutic products, regardless of how deeply it penetrates the skin, Swissmedic announced on Tuesday. The product may therefore not be marketed as a cosmetic.
Swissmedic also analyzed product samples in its laboratory and found that the ingredients did not correspond to the declaration and even varied depending on the packaging. In one sample, only the substance caffeine was detected, while in another sample none of the listed ingredients were detected. In this case, it was therefore a case of counterfeiting. A medical effect of the syringe could not be scientifically proven.
The "Lemon Bottle" fat removal syringe is advertised on the internet and in social media for reducing fat in problem areas. According to its own information, the preparation contains a number of natural ingredients. The Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products warns that its use is a health risk. Competent authorities can confiscate illegal medicines.
The inter-authority expert committee for demarcation issues is made up of experts from Swissmedic, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office, the Federal Office of Public Health, the Cantonal Pharmacy Association and the Association of Swiss Cantonal Chemists.
