The public prosecutor's office in Ticino has opened a criminal investigation into a member of the cantonal government. According to media reports, the person in question is Norman Gobbi, who was involved in a traffic accident in November.

According to a statement from the public prosecutor's office on Tuesday, the case concerns an accident that occurred near Stalvedro on November 14, 2023. It is being investigated whether a criminal offense was committed afterwards.

Specifically, there are allegations of abuse of authority and favoritism. The possible offenses concern a cantonal police officer and an unknown person.

According to media reports from Ticino, Gobbi was not named in the accident report. His alcohol level is also said to have been too high during the first test.

Gobbi's personal assistant only confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency that the government councillor was involved in an accident in November. No one was injured.
