German firm Diehl Defence partners with Swiss company Skysec Defence to develop advanced drone defence systems.
The German armaments company Diehl Defence will develop drones from the Swiss company Skysec Defence for military drone defence. The two companies signed a cooperation agreement, as announced by Armasuisse, the Swiss Federal Office of Armaments, on Friday.
The cooperation agreement was signed at a meeting between Urs Loher, Head of Armaments, and Swiss drone companies on Thursday.
Loher and an Armasuisse delegation were informed about Swiss drone technology by the companies PMRobotics, Skysec, Skysec Defence and the German Diehl Defence in Aadorf TG.
PMRobotics builds drones that serve as targets for air defence systems. Skysec is working on drones to defend against other drones for the protection of airports and industrial plants. Skysec Defense aims to transfer this civilian technology to the military.
The importance of small military drones has increased in all forms of conflict and war, Armasuisse reported. Their defence is particularly challenging.
Armasuisse is drawing on existing Swiss tech to build up the expertise of the armed forces and for drone defence, while at the same time promoting the technology base.
In an interview with Tamedia, Head of Armaments Loher attested to the great potential of Swiss industry in drones, robotics, unmanned systems, artificial intelligence and quantum technology.
