In the second round of the cantonal elections in St. Gallen, the two SVP candidates are ahead of the SP candidate according to the results from 51 of 75 municipalities. Two seats still need to be filled in the second round of voting for the seven-member cantonal government.
Christof Hartmann and Dana Zemp - both SVP - are some way ahead of Bettina Surber from the SP after 51 municipalities have been counted. Sarah Bösch, who is independent, is in fourth place.
In this interim result, Hartmann received 24,729 votes, Zemp 22,250 and Surber 20,429. Bösch has so far received 12,614 votes.
It is expected that the SP candidate could win many votes, particularly in the larger conurbations and cities. In the first round of voting on March 3, she was around 10,000 votes behind the two SVP candidates, who received almost the same number of votes.
