After wind thwarted Zurich’s traditional Sechseläuten festival, Appenzell Ausserrhoden steps in to host the rescheduled burning of the Böögg.
The Zurich Böögg is to be publicly burned in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. This comes after the log could not be lit due to heavy gusts of wind during the Sechseläuten festival in Zurich on Monday evening.
According to the Ausserrhoden government, the date and location of the burning have not yet been decided.
The cantonal government of Ausserrhoden has commissioned the cantonal Department of Construction and Economics and the current Ausserrhoden Sechseläuten organizing committee to draw up a concept for the event, according to a statement issued by the canton on Friday.
For the first time – with the exception of the Corona years – the woodpile on Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich was not lit on Monday evening.
The heavy gusts of wind did not allow a fire to be lit for safety reasons, as Felix Boller, President of the Central Committee of the Zurich Guilds (ZZZ), explained the decision, which was made jointly with various authorities.
