City of Zurich awards art prize to author Gertrud Leutenegger

The City of Zurich's 2024 Art Prize goes to Gertrud Leutenegger. The writer has created a singular body of work that began in 1975 with her debut novel "Vorabend" (Eve), which was set in Zurich, according to the city, which is awarding the prize worth 50,000 francs.

Gertrud Leutenegger has been following her own literary path for five decades, the city writes in its press release on Monday. In every book, she has created an idiosyncratic, unmistakable work that starts from the small and yet takes in the whole world. In her books, the political is transformed into poetry.

As the city also announced, it is awarding the CHF 20,000 prize for special cultural services to Karen Roth-Krauthammer, who chairs the cultural association Omanut, Forum for Jewish Art and Culture.

With a wide-ranging cultural program, the organizer and historian seeks dialogue and mediation, the city states. Karen Roth-Krauthammer's intelligent and prudent voluntary work accompanies and enriches Zurich's cultural life with a Jewish perspective.
