The fast food chain McDonald's Switzerland wants to accelerate its pace of expansion in Switzerland. In the current year alone, McDonald's plans to open seven new restaurants in Switzerland.

The 180th branch of the US burger joint opened in Aarberg BE in April, according to a press release on Tuesday. In the medium term, there should even be 200 McDonald's in this country.

During the coronavirus pandemic, McDonald's Switzerland relied heavily on online ordering and home delivery services, as well as the option to order via app. "Our app is used for one in five orders," explained McDonald's Switzerland boss Lara Skripitsky.

The company has not disclosed how much McDonald's sells in Switzerland for several years. However, the purchasing volume is quantified.

According to the report, the fast food giant bought food worth 235 million francs last year. This was 16 million more than in the previous year. According to the company, 88 percent of this came from Swiss suppliers.

According to the press release, McDonald's employs 8,600 people in Switzerland. Currently, 42 apprentices are being trained as system caterers with a federal diploma. In the long term, the company intends to expand the number of apprenticeships on offer to 100, it said.
