Motorcyclist dies in Basel after head-on collision with car

A motorcyclist collided head-on with a car in Basel on Wednesday evening. According to the police, the 26-year-old died at the scene of the accident.

The accident occurred at around 7 p.m., as reported by the Basel-Stadt cantonal police on Thursday morning. According to the report, a 77-year-old driver mistakenly drove on the wrong side of the road near a roadworks site. He collided with the oncoming motorcyclist.

In addition to the motorcyclist, who died at the scene, the passenger of the car driver was seriously injured and was taken to hospital. According to the press release, a blood and urine sample was ordered from the driver, and a breath alcohol test was negative. The public prosecutor's office has initiated proceedings against the 77-year-old for involuntary manslaughter.
