Gilles Roduit, who was removed from his position as pastor and dean of Saint-Maurice in Valais due to allegations of sexual abuse, has been allowed to work as a pastor again. Roduit had previously gone on a five-day hunger strike.

However, Roduit was not rehabilitated as dean of Monthey, as the diocese of Sion and the abbey of Saint-Maurice announced in a joint letter on Thursday, according to the Catholic online portal kath.ch.

In November last year, the canon of Saint-Maurice Abbey was relieved of his duties as parish priest and dean and retired.

The extent of the abuse scandal that has rocked the abbey of the Augustinian canons in Saint-Maurice in recent months is unclear. According to a report broadcast by French-speaking Swiss television station RTS in the fall, around ten canons are said to be involved in cases of sexual abuse within Saint-Maurice Abbey.
