The police intervened early this morning against pro-Palestinian students at the University of Geneva. The students had been occupying the UniMail building for almost a week.

At around 05:00, around twenty police officers in uniform and plain clothes entered the university's UniMail building. A reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency who was present at the scene reported that the police carried out ID checks and evacuated around fifty students.

The University of Geneva escalated the tone on Monday and announced that it would be filing a criminal complaint for trespassing against the pro-Palestinian students. The Rectorate had considered the night-time occupation of the UniMail to be illegal from the outset.

Among other things, the pro-Palestinian students are demanding that the University of Geneva support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and end its cooperation with Israeli universities and research institutes.
