SBB and representatives of several French-speaking Swiss cantons presented the timetable for 2025 at a media conference in Fribourg on Tuesday. The timetable, which comes into force on December 15, represents the biggest change in French-speaking Switzerland since Rail 2000.
In particular, the aim is to improve punctuality and carry out numerous construction works. The aim is to improve the service in the long term, said SBB and cantonal representatives. Even if connections deteriorate in some areas, the 2025 timetable will bring new direct connections to the area west of Lausanne and improvements to regional services.
A first draft of the timetable a year ago caused displeasure among cantons, cities and municipalities. The solution now proposed offers better connections, particularly on the Vaud Riviera and in Lower Valais. Customers will benefit from a half-hourly service between Biel and Geneva, although they will have to change trains in Renens VD. Direct connections will continue to be offered at peak times.
