Swiss airports recorded 1.5 million more passengers in scheduled and charter traffic in the first quarter of 2024 than in the same period last year. This corresponds to an increase of 13%, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Thursday.

However, the figures are still four percent below those of 2019, the year before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 12.4 million passengers were handled by scheduled and charter flights in the first quarter of the current year.

The number of flight movements, i.e. take-offs and landings, also increased in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year, rising by 12% to 98,000.
