Unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM in Laufen BL on Sunday night and caused considerable material damage. In addition to the ATM, the building of the bank branch was also damaged. The police temporarily cordoned off the area.

Shortly after 4.30 a.m., several witnesses reported loud detonations in Laufen, according to the Basel-Landschaft police. The patrols that were deployed finally noticed the blown-up ATM on Röschenzstrasse. It was located on the front of the bank branch.

The unknown perpetrators were motorized and fled in the direction of Röschenz. The police did not provide any information on the amount of the crime.

Time and again, criminals blow up ATMs in Switzerland. According to figures from the Federal Police, there were 32 ATM attacks last year. In the previous year there were 56.

The authorities attributed the sharp drop in robberies to security measures such as bars, video cameras, the use of dyes and the relocation of vulnerable ATMs. In addition, several groups of perpetrators were caught.
