In Geneva, former State Councillor Fabienne Fischer (Greens) used public funds for her 2023 election campaign. This is the conclusion reached by the Grand Council's audit committee in its report published on Tuesday.

"Instead of serving the population, the former State Councillor helped herself," said SP MP Jennifer Conti, President of the "Public Funds and Election Campaigns" subcommittee, to the media. The report states that two communications officers and another employee in Fischer's Department of Economic Affairs and Employment worked for the magistrate's personal election campaign.

The report also confirms that Fischer had conflicts of interest when hiring employees and awarding mandates. For example, Fischer is said to have hired a long-standing friend without her having to go through the usual application process. This is a clear case of nepotism, said Conti.
