Switzerland and Bangladesh have signed a bilateral agreement on scheduled air services. It grants airlines the rights they need to operate scheduled services between the two countries.
It is the first agreement of its kind between Switzerland and Bangladesh. The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) announced on Tuesday that each country can designate as many airlines as it wishes to operate flights between the two countries. Both countries have limited the number of passenger and cargo flights to seven per week. The economies of both countries will benefit from the agreement.
The agreement will enter into force as soon as Bangladesh has completed the necessary steps for its conclusion and entry into force. The Confederation is aiming to establish as many transport links as possible to intercontinental destinations, the statement continued. Switzerland has concluded bilateral air transport agreements with over 150 countries.
Switzerland and Bangladesh have maintained diplomatic relations since 1972, as the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) writes on its website.
The bilateral trade volume has more than tripled since 2010 and exceeded one billion francs for the first time in 2021. Imports from Bangladesh amounted to CHF 924 million and consist of over 90% textiles and ready-made clothing.
